The Week In Words #1

Welcome to the first Behemoth Boxing blog aka The Week In Words. These blogs we will be looking at all of the previous weeks boxing news highlights and everything in between.

Errol Spence is rumoured to be facing Danny Garcia in his comeback fight since his car crash in October. It’s looking like September dates and Garcia has confirmed that he will either be fighting Spence or Manny Pacquiao. Two punchers in Garcia and Spence means this would be an explosive fight. Garcia would like to make a statement in the 147 division and try to rectify losses to Porter and Thurman. On the topic of Errol Spence, Vergil Ortiz Jr Has said he believes Spence has the power to drop and stop Bud a.k.a. Terence Crawford. This is the fight we wanted to see in 2020 However 2021 looks more likely.

Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez Will be fighting in September. Bob Arum confirmed that they will either be fighting on the paper view event or, if the government is still in forcing restrictions and social distancing they will fight behind close doors. They will also have a rematch after an interim fight with Lopez calling out Haney this could also be on the cards. Lopez is a devastating puncher and Loma is a true technician so this will be a great match up. Lopez has recently stated that Loma would be an easier fight and then Commey.

September looks like it could be a huge month with Eddie Hearn confirming that he wants Billy Joe Saunders to box Canelo. The winner of which will then fight GGG in December providing he beats his IBF mandatory Kamil Seremeta in August. People should not write off BJS, as he has proved to be a top fighter despite some past challenges. If the Saunders fight does not materialise and Canelo fancies his chances he could box Callum Smith which would be an awesome fight.

In other news Adrien Broner has stated he is staying retired until he receives $10 million despite not having a win to his name since 2017 he still believes he is a top contender at 140 or 147. According to his Instagram he has said "I take that as I’m still retired so what I’m gonna do now is focus on my album and I’m just a rapper I’m a rap and now shit until they talk about my $10 million I’m not going to be in the ring so my album is dropping and it is what it is." He has a few options as to who he could fight the back end of 2020 and going into 2021. Danny Garcia, Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis to name a few.

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Deontay Wilder will not be facing Anthony Joshua in 2021. This means he is effectively being frozen out of the chance to win IBF WBO and WBA Belts. He carries is tremendous power and as we seen a year ago Anthony Joshua lacks chin. This would be a great fight and a dangerous one for both fighters however, this only looks like it will only happen should Wilder beat Tyson Fury in the trilogy rematch. Interestingly Hearn has said he wants to bring back 50-50 split, I like the idea it will be extremely difficult for example; AJ Pulev? GGG Canelo? Usyk Chisora? Time will tell.

"Fat, bald, ugly and stoppable" is how Tyson Fury described himself recently. The WBC champion has been called out by Dillian Whyte after he says he dropped him multiple times in sparring. Fury has said Whyte has a long wait ahead of him, as he will be boxing Wilder in the rematch and finally AJ for the long-awaited undisputed championship. Whyte is scheduled to face heavy hitting Russian Povetkin before the year is out. Whyte is a dangerous fighter but I would like to see him rematch AJ first.
