The Week In Words #3

Errol Spence has said he has three flights left at 147 and wants to fight Danny Garcia, Manny Pacquiao and Terence Crawford before moving up to 154lbs. Stating he wants to fight in October or November, he looks to prove doubters wrong and vows to come back stronger than ever after his horrific car accident last year. Bob Arum has challenged and Spence’s view, asking who is going to pay for these big fights? With the US economy in its current state of affairs perhaps paper view isn’t the best for the public. This being said Crawford Pacquiao is rumoured to be taking place in Bahrain later this year, potentially throwing Errol’s 3 fight plan up in the air.

Eddie Hearn believes Deontay Wilder will not be ready to face Tyson Fury in their trilogy rematch by the end of the year.  Hearn wants Whyte to get his mandated title shot against the winner by February next year. Johnny Nelson has echoed Hearns comments he thinks it will be a huge mistake to rush back after his bicep surgery, but will Deontay step aside? It’s a catch 22 as if he does, he’s out of the picture, if he doesn’t and loses then he’s facing another major set back. He must win the fight in devastating fashion. There are rumours that the trilogy match will take place either in the states or in Macau. The US is unlikely as there is a threat of a second Covid wave. “We will be talking to the organisations to eliminate mandatories, or to postpone them all for at least one year,” said Arum to skysports.com. “I am sick and tired of being forced, with my marquee fighters, to fight meaningless fights against mandatories that mean nothing.” - Bob Aaron, will this be the case ? Time will tell.

Derevyanchenko wants the Charlo fights and also wants to fight Canelo Golovkin Newbank Junior. “I think so, and in time that fight will happen,” said Derevyanchenko on a fight between him and Jermall Charlo. “We’re both under Al Haymon, and that makes things a lot easier to make a deal to negotiate when we’re with the same person versus going out with somebody else. So in due time, I think that fight will happen.”  There are rumours that he will be boxing Canelo on September 14 on DAZN how he performed against GGG, with many believing he took the W, it’s looking positive as he is based in the US therefore there is no travel restrictions. This being said Canelo will be the decider and apparently no official offer has been made yet.

Julio Cesar Martinez will be boxing in July and September providing he gets through the July fight, he could possibly face the IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane. Martinez has boxed 4 times in 2019 winning all before all but one against Edwards which was ruled no contest. It would also be good to see Martinez versus Tanaka for the WBC and WBO straps.  Martinez burst onto the scene last year against Edwards and he is surrounded by world class operators in his stable. 2021 will be a huge year El Rey.
