The Week In Words #6

Welcome to the 6th issue of The Week In Words

Going back on his words Bob Arum has now stated that Crawford will be facing Ugas instead of Manny Pac, looking like the fight will take place in China or the Middle East. This will be an entertaining fight Crawford can expect a war. Some would say that Ugas was unlucky to lose against Shaun Porter. Have no doubt, this fight would keep us on the edge of seats and Crawford would look to make another statement and another step towards one of the all time greats.

Andy Ruiz is looking sharp and looks like he has dropped weight, hoping to be fighting fit in the near future, there are talks of a Parker Ruiz re-match. If this was held in a neutral country it could go either way. Michael Hunter Dylan Hrgovic are all in contention for the fight, or at least the fights we want to see. Ruiz has said earlier this week but he wants to box Dillian to “shut him up”. In fairness, this would be an awesome fight, however we want to see Fury AJ / Fury Whyte or AJ Whyte for now.

Joe Gallagher has said Callum Smith will move to 175 and would have Artur Beterbiev’s IBF and WBC crown in his sights. This is of course, if he can’t get the fights he wants at 168.

“I know Callum Smith is wildly intent on fighting Benavidez and Caleb Plant,” said trainer Joe Gallagher to Pro Boxing Fans. “Those are the fights that he wants, and if they’re not going to come, then he’ll move up to light heavyweight to fight Gilberto Ramirez and Artur Beterbiev.

“Those fights are exciting to him as well. If the fights can’t be made, then that’s the plan-B option. It’s a shame really that the fighters that he wants to fight are with other TV networks. I said to him the other day, ‘If they made Tyson Fury vs. AJ, then there’s still hope for you, and then there’s a Plant or Benavidez fight.’ I’m not sure about that.

“Callum has never come to me to say, ‘I got an offer to fight Plant.’ Maybe there was an offer, but as far as I’m aware, no offer was made. Perhaps it was along the lines, ‘we’re willing to fight,’ but as far as a pen or paper offer on the table, no, I’m not aware of,” said Gallagher. Gallagher also confirmed that Smith still wants the Canelo fight and this is the fight the fans want to see, so lets hope they get it on in 2021!

Oscar Dela Hoya making a comeback at 1:60?

I think coming back for charity is awesome,” said De La Hoya to RingTV on Mike Tyson coming back. “Maybe,” said Oscar when asked if he might come back. “I actually want to see what Tyson does first. And I have been working out, and I have been training and I have been staying in shape.”

When asked who he would face, Oscar said “I would really come back. I’m really considering it. It doesnt matter, anyone who is the best out there,” Is he serious? Or has lockdown got the better of him?

British boxing is back to life with Frank Warren confirming that he will have cards from the 10th July. Eddie Hearn announced the 4 Matchroom Fight Camp cards commencing on the 1st August with Sam Eggington boxing Ted Cheeseman which will be an explosive British dust up. Joyce Dubois has been confirmed for October, which will see the winner put into wor
